The 'Hoisting Engineer' commonly operates the various large types of cranes that are found in today's construction industry. As an Operating Engineer Hoisting Engineer Apprentice student will receive the instruction and experience that are necessary to develop a practical and skilled journey person that is well versed in the theory and practice of his or her particular trade classification. This is done by using the following appropriate schedule of work experience as a guide:

1. Rigging and transporting 3,000 Hours
2. Crane operation and maintenance 3,000 Hours
3. Compliance, rules, and regulations 2,000 Hours
TOTAL TERM OF APPRENTICESHIP 8,000 Hours

The apprentice 'Hoisting Engineer' will also perform other duties that are commonly related to his or her classification.
