40-HOUR HAZMAT WORKER TRAINING PROGRAM
Over the last century industrial pollution has taken an enormous toll on the fragile environment of this country. In the last decade a national awareness has emerged as to the effects this neglect has had on reducing the quality of life that we lead. Through the persistent demands of a growing and vocal grassroots movement, strict legislation has been passed requiring industry to handle and dispose of generated hazardous materials and to clean up past mistakes.

Hazmat at work The International Union of Operating Engineers has been called on by industry to supply a significant portion of the skilled workforce required to battle this national problem. Billions of dollars will be expended in the next several decades in this effort. Job opportunities will be available to or members but only to those with the necessary training. An awareness of the risks posed by this work and a knowledge of the precautions that must be taken are a prerequisite for any worker entering a site.

This course certifies students in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.120. The class is a combination of both Classroom and Hands-on experience. The program provides students an awareness of the risks posed by Hazmat work and a knowledge of the precautions that must be taken as a prerequisite for the worker entering a Hazmat site.

8-HOUR HAZMAT REFRESHER COURSE
This course is specifically designed to re-certify graduates of the 40-hour Hazmat Course in accordance with 20 CFR 1910.120. Hazmat on Equip The course is a classroom experience that provides students the opportunity to refresh their awareness if the risks posed by Hazmat work and a knowledge of the precautions that must be taken as a prerequisite for the worker entering a Hazmat site.

It is a requirement of CFR 1910.120 to attend an 8-Hour Hazmat Refresher Course once a year. Members who have received their original 40-Hour Certification through IUOE Local 370 are not required to sign-up for 8-Hour Refresher Courses. We will notify these members annually of dates, times and locations of upcoming classes.
