6 Day Hands On Craning

COURSE OUTLINE

PRE-OPERATIONAL INSPECTIONS: Actual hands-on experience in conducting important pre-operational inspections and lubricating cycles. Areas of Frequent and Periodic inspection, and what damage or fault the area is being inspected for are practiced daily.

BOOM ASSEMBLY EXERCISES: Both hydraulic and lattice boom assembly and disassembly procedures are practiced on the Institute's craning equipment. The following of the manufactures' directions and safety procedures are emphasized and practiced.

PROPER SET-UP: Directions and procedures for the proper setting up of rubber tired and crawler mounted cranes are demonstrated by the Institute's trained staff and practiced by the participants in actual field situations.

These exercises are constructed to allow the operator to practice and become familiar with the operating characteristics of the particular crane.

PERFORM COMPLEX LIFTS: Operators possessing advanced skills will be allowed to perform more complex lifts such as picking and carrying of loads, tipping up and lowering of loads like slabs and vessels, and making multiple crane lifts.

HANDS-ON PROFICIENCY TEST: At the conclusions of this training program the participants will be required to complete a hands-on demonstration of the knowledge and operating skills learned during the program. Individuals attending all practical training hours will receive a "Participant Certificate"attesting to their attendance in the program.

NCCCO SKILLS TEST CERTIFICATION: The NCCCO Practical Examinations are available on three crane types. They include: Lattice Boom, Telescopic Crane up to 17.5 tons capacity (fixed cab), and Telescopic Crane above 17.5 tons capacity (swing cab). Candidates may take the Practical Examination on one, two, or all three of the crane types.

The Practical Examination is comprised of four main tasks that increase progressively in the skill level tested. Skills tested are: hoisting, booming, swinging, following hand signals, and combination (multi-function) operations. Crane operation with load and without load is required.

NCCCO adapts the test site layout for each model of crane used for the Practical Examination to ensure the examination remains standardized for all candidates wherever and whenever they may test.

ELIGIBILITY: Before being eligible to take the Practical Examination, a candidate must have passed the written examination, meet NCCCO's medical criteria, and have 1,000 hours crane-related experience in the last five (5) years.
Crane-related experience is defined as crane operation, maintenance, inspection, or training.

A candidate may take the Practical Examination only in those categories that he/she has passed on the Written Examination. For example, to test on a Lattice Boom Crane, a candidate must have passed either the Lattice Boom Truck or Lattice Boom Crawler Crane written examination.

A candidate's Practical Exam application will remain valid for one year from the date of approval after which the fee will be forfeited and the new application will be required.
